Ming not the only one failing?

I've just seen this interesting post on Quaequam Blog!:

Watch out, the tomatoes are coming!
21 months
Simon Hughes has been President of the Liberal Democrats for 21 months. I mention this because he seems to believe we should set arbitrary dates after which a politician should be assessed.
Can anyone name a single innovation that he has introduced in that time? More specifically, can anyone name a single innovation that he has introduced aimed at achieving his election pledge of the Lib Dems' membership exceeding Labour's by the end of his tenure this year?
Many of the problems we currently face as a party are rooted in the party's Federal Executive, the way Hughes chairs it and the way it has ceased to be the co-ordinating body it needs to be. In that respect, the phrase "dismal failure" springs to mind when thinking of Hughes, something not exactly confounded when he gives dumb interviews like this.
So it's not just Ming who's under fire at the moment. Can Hughes survive the barrage of criticism? It's not as intense as that surrounding Ming - not least because not even Hughes drop gaffes that undermine himself!

You cannot oust the Party President without local parties holding an emergency meeting and having a two thirds majority. 15 local parties have to do this to be valid. This would then call for another election. No one will do this as we know who would stand. The same geek who stood against Simon.....yes Lembit. Argh!!!

That may be the constitutional way to remove the President but let's not forget Charles Kennedy was not removed by the procedure in the constitution!

And do you honestly expect the Backing of Death to win?

Simon Hughes' current term of office ends in a few months. The issue is not how to oust him, but how to make sure he doesn't get re-elected.
