Daniel Snowdon has highlighted this story as the Lib Dem leader confronts his ex-rival. Campbell has had a "free and frank" discussion with Simon Hughes about the latter's comments in the media that have not helped the leadership. One has to wonder why it has taken Campbell so long to get round to this. And why am I reminded of Dennis Healey's famous comment that being attacked by his Conservative opposite, Sir Geoffrey Howe, was "like being savaged by a dead sheep"?
