I'm currently watching the BBC News 24 French election special and at the moment we're seeing Sarkozy's motorcade heading to the UMP headquarters in Paris. Umpteen photographers on motorcycles are jostling for shots of the man.
Am I the only one reminded of Diana?
Cue a Daily Express headline on this tomorrow...

I'm current watching the coverage of the riots.
The Diana comparison didn't cross my mind. What did suprise me though was the seeming complete absence of security protection for the President-Elect; it would be very different in the US. Also the veyr ordinary car he was being driven in. I applaud his supporters'/friends' choice of Fouquet's to celebrate though, I often had coffee and meals there when I lived in Paris. Perhaps it is just a reflecion that France is, generally speaking and despite the culture of civil unrest, a pretty civilised place.
I suppose it's the way the photographes were so determined, jostling to get shots, riding alongside - there was even a journalist trying to conduct an interview at 50 kmph! Whilst Sarkozy is a legitimate target, the determination of the photographers did remind me of the stories of that night in Paries ten years ago (on what was also a Bank Holiday weekend).
