Eurosceptics turn their back on the UK
The UK Independence Party has announced a rebranding of itself as "the Independence Party". (Telegraph.co.uk: Ukip name change is part of attempt to woo disaffected Tories) In the party's quest to find extra issues, it's now trying to present itself as a party in favour of greater local devolution, having realised that opposing proposals to twin towns with places in Europe isn't a viable strategy for local government. But the timing of this - in the run up to elections for all three devolved parliaments - can't be coincidental. By downplaying the UK UKIP have shown themselves to be mere opportunists, willing to present themselves as both nationalists and unionists depending on whatever will get them votes anywhere. In that respect they could be Liberal Democrats!
