It was inevitable that there would be a boost in the opinion polls for Labour with the Brown accession. Equally inevitable are the calls from certain quarters of the Conservative Party to lurch to the right. These siren calls must be resisted. Past Conservative leaders have lurched to the right and it has got them nowhere. Cornerstone is not known as Tombstone for nothing.
